From Silver Bay, MN, on the north shore of Lake Superior, comes this scarce 1960s "Rocky Taconite" advertising bobble head. The mascot of the Silver Bay iron ore mining and steel fabricating industries, this hefty 6" tall figure is reportedly crafted from taconite stone, and weighs considerably more than your typical bobble head. Painted jet black with red and silver accents, this striking figure makes a dynamic appearance, that screams display appeal. Scant wear on the silver helmet is only noticeable upon close inspection, and has minimal impact on the (NM+) grade of this striking statue. Affixed to the front of the base is a partially eroded label that reads "Made in Silver Bay, Taconite Capitol of the World". A second label applied to the underside of the base, is a dedication to those responsible for transforming taconite into steel, reading in part "Symbolic of a New Era..The Transition of Taconite to Steel".
