His career defined by defensive wizardry at the hot corner, Hall of Famer Jimmy Collins (d.1943) was the player/manager of the first-ever World Series champion. More than two decades after Collins’ career, an autograph seeker secured this rare scripting. Appealing simply because of the scarce population of Collins pennings, this particular autograph may very well trump other examples as the most prominent Collins endorsement extant. Executed in black-ink steel tip fountain pen on a 5x3 index card, Collins' signature (signed "James J. Collins") projects “perfect 10” strength and clarity and is accompanied by a “Very Truly Yours” salutation, a “July 20 / 1931” notation and an inscription of “3rd Sacker” (all in Collins’ hand). On the reverse, there are vintage notations (in an unknown hand) detailing specifics of Collins’ career. Combining elements of signature strength, the telling inscription and Collins' status in baseball lore, this heirloom is without rival among Hall of Fame collectibles. Full photo LOA from JSA.
