We are re-auctioning this piece due to the fact that the winning bidder was not able to honor his bid.
Good evening…for your viewing pleasure we present a gouache style illustration board print of Alfred Hitchcock by famed caricaturist Al Hirschfeld. Known as the “Line King,” Hirschfeld specialized in simple black on white drawings of celebrities during his long career. The original illustration of this print was used for the 11/30/57 cover of TV guide and is a fine representation of the artist’s color work. Framed and matted to overall dimensions of 17x21 this dynamic piece presents in excellent condition with only minor peripheral wear on the border and frame. More on our website.
Upon removal from the frame the handwritten number “59” was detected on the lower right corner, however no information is available on the size of the limited edition quantity. The supporting backer board is stamped on the reverse side at the lower right corner as follows, “Eastman Dye Transfer Print by Chas. P. Mills & Son, Photography Inc., 708 S. Washington Sq. Phila. 5 Pa.”. The style of the address with the postal zone “5” present predates the five digit zip code system introduced in 1963. There are two small bits of tape/residue on the prints white border used to connect to the matting which do not affect the image area at all.
